thomas stone!
al•ter•na•tive (adj):
1) offering or expressing a choice 2) different from the usual or conventional as existing or functioning outside the established cultural, social, or economic system...
In September 1968, a school was opened. It was nothing out of the ordinary. It was just a typical public high school. It wasn't a boarding school. It wasn't a magnet school. They didn't even have an all star basketball team. It was just average and the students and staff didn't really seem all that bothered by it. The way they saw it, if they wanted a school that was exceptional at something, they'd have gone to an exceptional school.
It wasn't shocking that they felt this way. Being located in Hereford, the most uneventful area of Baltimore, a city that never slept, there wasn't ever that much going on. Did they want excitement, fun, and well...just anything? Of course they did, but they were use to this life. Stuck in the middle of farmland, Hereford was different environment entirely.
In February 2010, an announcement was made. Another building would be added to the school. It would be called, 'The Thomas Stone Alternative Educational Center.' The once completely normal school was about to be changed forever. The schools were suppose to be kept apart, considered different schools. Sure they had different teachers and classrooms. Different buses and schedules. Still there is only one gym, one cafeteria. They have to walk the same halls as one another. This is the second school year for the alternative students (2011-2012). The public school kids aren't happy about the change, and often pick on the alternative kids. The alternative kids just want to be accepted. It seems to be a day to day war between the two groups, and no one is sure how it will end.
